IRA Makes Gift of a Lifetime

12.21.15

It is now easier than ever to make the gift of a lifetime. Congress recently passed the PATH Act, which renews and makes permanent the Charitable IRA Provision of 2006. This makes it easier for donors to give to causes they care about, and these extended tax benefits allow more people to experience the joy of giving during their lifetimes. For people who would rather give to charity than pay taxes, and for the nonprofit organizations they choose to support, this is a perfect opportunity.

Thanks to this new legislation, American seniors can make the gift of a lifetime by giving their IRAs to charity without federal tax penalty. This allows taxpayers who are at least 70 ½ years old to bypass income tax on their estate by giving retirement savings directly to charity, up to $100,000. So your retirement funds can go further than ever before. And the Montgomery County Community Foundation can help you connect to the causes you care about most. Giving is one of life’s pleasures; we can help you enjoy it today.
