"Healthy" Community Engagement Grants

11.28.12

There are many aspects to having a "healthy" community - and the physcial health of its citizens plays a vital role. With that in mind, our latest Community Engagement Grants provide support to help make that happen. Dr. Janet Rucker, a local dentist and MCCF Board member, is fervant in her desire to see that adequate medical care is provided to everyone in our county. Her $1,000 Board grant to the Montgomery County Free Clinic was a perfect fit as the Clinic will offer both medical and dental services for the uninsured, along with health education programs. In another area of the county, the town of New Ross is working towards a master plan to develop the Leland Cornett Memorial Park. Ten acres of land was donated by Mr. Cornett to be used as a nature park and walking trails are already in use. A group working with the town board is the New Ross Players, who are showing their support by donating proceeds from their productions to the Park. This outdoor space will be a great place for physical activity and exercise and the Foundation was pleased to offer the $1,000 November Community Engagement Grant to this worthwhile project.
