Camping Capers!

6.18.13

Montgomery County 4-H youth had a fun filled time at Shakamak State Park as the annual 4-H camp was held there this week! The three day camp, which ran from June 16-18, welcomed over 160 children from Montgomery, Benton, Fountain and Hendricks counties. Junior leaders from each of the counties also served as camp counselors, learning valuable leadership and organizational skills. Campers were kept busy with activities throughout their stay which included boating, swimming, arts and crafts, hiking, geocaching, dancing, and even extracting DNA from bananas! In addition to the fun happenings, the 4-H campers were taught about the importance of protecting the nature around them and what they can do to help preserve it. The Harold B. Taylor Memorial Fund provides much appreciated support to Montgomery County students attending 4-H camp, making it possible for them to experience this great opportunity.
