MCCF Announces Matching Gift Campaign

11.21.25

Your gift + our match = TRIPLE the impact!

The Montgomery County Community Foundation is pleased to announce its intent to apply for a $750,000 Matching Fund Grant through the ninth phase of Lilly Endowment Inc.'s Giving Indiana Funds for Tomorrow (GIFT IX). This grant is one of two funding opportunities available to the community foundation through GIFT IX, for which Lilly Endowment has allocated up to $271.5 million to support Indiana's community foundations in their efforts to enhance the quality of life across the state.

As a result of the GIFT IX Initiative, all gifts to unrestricted funds at MCCF will be matched $2 for every $1 given. The matching period began October 1, 2025 and will continue as long as funds are available, or until June 30, 2028.

Thanks to the generosity of our donors, assets of the Montgomery County Community Foundation have grown steadily over the years. However, our unrestricted resources, which are used to address our community’s greatest needs, continue to have greater demand. GIFT IX has the potential to significantly impact our community for many years to come. Building our unrestricted endowment will allow us more flexibility and a greater capacity to address critical needs as they arise in our community.

Unrestricted grants are awarded within these areas of interest:

  • Arts and Culture
  • Community Development
  • Early Childhood Education
  • Education
  • Health
  • Human Services
  • Historical
  • Youth

MCCF manages over 275 endowed funds, each established by donors with visions of making Montgomery County a better place to live. Since 1991, $31.5 million in grants and scholarships have been awarded to agencies and students right here in Montgomery County.

The GIFT initiative is part of Lilly Endowment’s grantmaking to strengthen Indiana communities and has been a priority of the Endowment since the first phase of GIFT in 1990. The initiative’s primary aim is to help Indiana community foundations develop the philanthropic capacity to identify, prioritize and address local opportunities and challenges.

Lilly Endowment Inc. is an Indianapolis-based private foundation created in 1937 by J. K. Lilly and his sons, Eli and J.K. Jr., through gifts of stock in their pharmaceutical business, Eli Lilly and Company. While those gifts remain the financial bedrock of the Endowment, the Endowment is a separate entity from the company, with a distinct governing board, staff and location. In keeping with its founders’ wishes, the Endowment supports the causes of community development, education and religion. While the Endowment funds programs throughout the United States on an invitational basis to support these causes, especially in the field of religion, it maintains a special commitment to its founders’ hometown, Indianapolis, and home state, Indiana.
