MCCF Board President Steve McLaughlin announced that the 2015 Volunteer of the Year winner was Mike Barton for his work with the Montgomery County Historical Society. Mike is a member of the MCHS Board of Directors, and uses his many talents for the benefit of Montgomery County’s most precious landmarks. Mike has been described as “A ‘working’ board member who not only keeps committees functioning well, but who also rolls up his sleeves and does whatever needs to be done.” In addition to his work on the board, he helps out as a plumber, security guard, grounds keeper, docent, and fund raiser. He is dedicated to preserving the history of Montgomery County- something we can all appreciate!

Our 2015 Youth Volunteer of the Year award was presented to Elizabeth Brown. Elizabeth is a senior at North Montgomery High School and has been a member of the PEERS Project for three years. Like a lot of high school students, Elizabeth has a busy schedule, but still finds time to present lessons from the PEERS curriculum about nine times each year. Elizabeth was commended for stepping up to the plate this year when an adult leader became less available and thus became a student leader within the group. The PEERS Project educates students about avoiding risky behaviors, and Elizabeth very strongly supports this mission.

A $1,000 gift was made to the Montgomery County Historical Society in Mike’s honor, and a $500 gift was presented to the PEERS Project in Elizabeth’s honor. The Montgomery County Community Foundation greatly appreciates all of the volunteers who devote their time to bettering our community, and is honored to present these awards each year.
