First Grant Cycle Awards for 2016

Montgomery County Community Foundation is conducting three grant cycles in 2016 and the first awards were recently made with seven grants totaling $51,197. It is always rewarding to see the charitable dreams of our donors fulfilled by meeting the needs of the worthy nonprofits that serve our community. The awards were distributed as follows:

The Historical Society received $3,662 from the Leonard and Louise Winchell Fund and Community Fund to purchase video equipment for the purpose of videotaping interviews with military veterans. Meredith Nicholson Elementary received $2,500 from the Nucor Steel Fund and the John & Kathleen Steele Fund to purchase a school-year license of Minecraft for Education for each Nicholson student. Crawfordsville Community School Corporation received $9,000 from the Faye O. and Anna Winter Schenck Fund for the school corporation’s health and welfare fund which assists students in need with medical, dental, optical, Rx expenses and for emergency preparedness and CPR training. Half Way Home received $20,000 from the Dr. Fred and Elizabeth Daugherty Trust Fund, the Florence Shultz Trust Fund, and the Max Tannenbaum - Unrestricted Fund to fund the salary of an Assistant Director. Trinity Horizons, Inc. received $7,350 from the Roland Brooks and Helen Johnson Wynne Fund, the Physicians Fund and the Community Fund to install a security monitoring system and to create a handicap accessible entrance at the Trinity Life Ministry facility in Crawfordsville. Mountie Mission, Inc. received $5,000 from the Max Tannenbaum Fund -Unrestricted which will be used to purchase backpacks, school supplies, and school clothing for children with limited resources so that they can head back to the classroom with their basic needs met, and ready to learn. Crawfordsville Parks & Recreation Dept. received $3,300 from the Maude Dockins Trust Fund, the Amy C. Robinson Trust Fund and the Women of Wisdom Fund: Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow: honoring Rev. Chris Hotopp-Zachary, Mary Vi Leaming RN, and Meda Lorton which will be used to support “Camp Things with Wings,” a summer camp which is inclusive of children with special needs.
