2015 Bowman Memorial Ride

6.17.15

The 4th Annual Brian Bowman Memorial Ride was held on Saturday, June 13th. The annual ride, sponsored by the American Legion Riders Post 72, has raised thousands of dollars for the Brian Bowman Memorial Scholarship Fund. This scholarship was established in memory of Spc. Bowman, an Army medic, who tragically lost his life in Afghanistan while tending to the needs of a wounded soldier. The scholarship fund was established by family and friends to honor his memory and make certain that his legacy and heroism will live on in this community.

A section of the scholarship application asks, “What does patriotism mean to you?” This year’s scholarship winner, Nathan Jent, of Southmont High School, wrote:

“Patriotism is much more than celebrating Memorial Day or the Fourth of July. It is more than saying the Pledge of Allegiance every day or singing the National Anthem. Patriotism means that we believe in the values of the founding fathers, that we embody life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness, and that we uphold the human rights of every person.”

This year’s memorial ride was a success, as there were many participants and beautiful weather! We are incredibly thankful for the sacrifice made by Spc. Bowman and are honored to award this scholarship each year.
