2009 Grant Awards
This year marks the 17th anniversary of the Montgomery County Community Foundation (MCCF) awarding its first grant. In 1992, three grants totaling $2,092 were awarded as the first MCCF initiatives in our community. Since that time, MCCF has awarded over 3,600 grants and scholarships totaling more than $9.9 million!
Twenty-two grant distributions were made during the 2009 grant cycle for a total of $231,688.00.
A.H.E.A.D. Coalition - $5,533. Funding for operating funds to sustain the organization through 12/31/09. (Grant money awarded from the Community Fund.)
Animal Welfare League of Montgomery County - $13,300. Funding to purchase a larger animal control truck. (Grant money from the Hubert & Martha Massing Fund.)
Boys and Girls Club - $21,000. Funding to sustain the After School Program. (Grant money from the Walter F. Hulet Fund.)
Carnegie Museum - $2,952. Funding for the Invention Convention Exhibition for students in grades 6-12 to create alternate energy exhibits. Funds are for brochures, prizes, easels and plaques. (Grant money from the Irwin Lee Detchon, William & Amy Roth, Damon C. & Bernice Seaman Wray and Beverley J. Turner in Memory of John C. White Funds.)
Christian Nursing Service - $14,000. Funding to assist Montgomery County residents with their health concerns which include prescriptions, health care through local health professionals and adult vaccinations for H1N1. (Grant money from the Drs. Paul & Mary Ludwig and Faye O. & Anna Winter Schenck Funds.)
Community Chorus - $3,000. Funding to assemble an orchestra to perform for the 2009 Christmas concert. (Grant money from the Dr. Fred & Elizabeth Daughterty Fund.)
Crawfordsville Art League - $2,500. Funding for lighting for store windows during the Annual Art League Fall Downtown Juried Art Exhibit. (Grant money from the Florence Schultz and MCCF Directors Funds.)
Educational Foundation - $10,000. Funding for Montgomery County teacher grants. (Grant money from the Samuel & Fern Boots and Irwin Lee Detchon Funds.)
Family Crisis Shelter - $8,880. Funding to remodel the children's interior and outside play areas. (Grant money from the Community Fund.)
General Lew Wallace Study and Museum - $51,000. Funding for restoration of the study dome roof and stucco foundation due to water damage. (Grant money from the Walter F. Hulet and Community Funds.)
Habitat for Humanity - $3,800. Funding for assistance to apply for a $40,000 grant to be used for construction of a Habitat partner family home. (Grant money from the Hubert & Martha Massing Fund.)
Historical Society - $32,360. Funding for the repair of exterior and interior walls and restoration of interior rooms of Lane Place. (Grant money from the Irwin Lee Detchon and Community Funds.)
HUB Ministries - $2,240. HUB coordinates assistance to families and individuals in our community who are in need. Funding for establishment of emergency assistance for gas, food and housing. Funds also include laptop computer and file cabinet to help the organization manage clients. (Grant money from the A.F. Ramsey, Herman Dicks and Walter F. Hulet Funds.)
Linden-Madison Township Historical Society - $5,468. Funding to remodel the Linden Railroad Museum to eliminate moisture in crawl space, insulate and vent the attic, and complete storm window applications. (Grant money from the Community Fund.)
Montgomery United Fund For You - $5,475. Funding for 2009 MUFFY campaign materials. (Grant money from the Walter F. Hulet Fund.)
Park and Recreation Department - $600. Funding for craft supplies for the senior group. (Grant money from the Walter F. Hulet Fund.)
Red Cross - $5,000. Funding for part-time Youth Volunteer Coordinator to begin a new youth volunteer program in the three county schools. (Grant money from the Irwin Lee Detchon Fund.)
South Montgomery School Corporation - $8,000. Funding for the school's health and welfare fund which assists needy students with health issues. (Grant money from the Faye O. & Anna Winter Schenck Fund.)
Sugar Creek Players - $13,250. Funding for safety enhancements to the Vanity Theatre which include rebuilding a staircase, modify sprinkler system, safety lighting and handrails. (Grant money from the James G. & Susan Smith, Irwin Lee Detchon and First Merchants/Lafayette Bank & Trust Funds.)
Sunshine Vans - $10,000. Funding for operating funds for driver wages. (Grant money from the Luella Brake, Maude Dockins, Amy C. Robinson and Walter F. Hulet Funds.)
Women's Resource Center - $3,200. Funding for baby items, pregnancy tests and prenatal vitamins. (Grant money from the Walter F. Hulet and Faye O. & Anna Winter Schenck Funds.)
Youth Service Bureau - $10,130. Funding for operating funds to sustain the Juvenile Mentoring Program (JUMP). (Grant money from the Max K. Tannenbaum Fund.)
