2008 Cycle 1 - Grant Distribution
This year marks the 16th anniversary of the Montgomery County Community Foundation (MCCF) awarding its first grant. In 1992, three grants totaling $2,092 were awarded as the first MCCF initiatives in our community. Since that time, MCCF has awarded over 3,000 grants and scholarships totaling more than $8.3 million.
Ten grant distributions were made during the first grant cycle of 2008 for a total of $174,513.88.
Crawfordsville Community Chorus - $5,000. Funding to assemble a group of musicians to form an orchestra to perform for the 2008 Christmas concert. (Grant money awarded from the Walter F. Hulet Fund.)
Habitat for Humanity - $2,300. Funding for completion of the Habitat subdivision sidewalks located at Russell and Liberty Streets. (Grant money awarded from the Beverley J. Turner Fund in memory of John C. White and Damon C. & Bernice Seaman Wray Fund.)
Psi Iota Xi, Gamma Xi Chapter - $900. Funding to purchase new audiometer to conduct hearing tests in Montgomery County preschools. (Grant money awarded from the Harold and Doris Larsen Fund.)
Animal Welfare League of Montgomery County - $15,013.88. Funding for improvements to the facility which include stoning an area for dogs to exercise, fence repairs, weather and heat protection for the animals, cement repair, enclose front office, and increase cat space. (Grant money awarded from The Community Fund.)
Boys and Girls Club of Montgomery County - $50,000. Funding for scholarship program to provide financial assistance for club membership and activities to children in need. (Grant money awarded from the Walter F. Hulet Fund and Irwin Lee Detchon Fund.)
Montgomery County Cultural Foundation (Old Jail Museum) - $42,400. Funding for rehabilitation of the steam plant located behind the Old Jail Museum to be used as an art center and multipurpose event space. (Grant money awarded from the James G. & Susan Smith Fund, Florence Schultz Fund, Max K. Tannenbaum Fund, and the Community Fund.)
Lew Wallace Study and Preservation Society, Inc. - $17,500. Funding for strategic planning, educational programming, the Legacy Gallery and Taste of Montgomery County electrical upgrades. (Grant money awarded from the Irwin Lee Detchon Fund.)
Montgomery United Fund For You - $8,800. Funding for 2008 MUFFY campaign materials. (Grant money awarded from the Walter F. Hulet Fund.)
Sunshine Vans - $7,600. Twenty percent matching funds to purchase a 2008 low floor mini van with wheelchair ramp. (Grant money awarded from the Herman Dicks Fund, Luella Brake Fund and the Irwin Lee Detchon Fund.)
Montgomery County Youth Camp, Inc. (Camp Rotary) - $25,000. Funding for construction of a maintenance/workshop/storage building at Camp Rotary which will house equipment and provide space for maintenance and repairs. (Grant money awarded from the Lincoln Charitable Foundation Fund and the Hubert and Martha Massing Fund.)
