Grant Application
This year, MCCF will have one granting cycle where grants from organizations will be considered for funding. Below is the grant cycle due date.
Please read the grant information carefully. Also, please keep in mind that if you have received funding from MCCF in the past, all post-grant reporting requirements must be current in order to be eligible to apply for future funding. To assist organizations in applying for a grant, we have developed the following grant tips:
Tips for Preparing a Grant Application
The following information is provided to assist you in preparing your grant application. Should you have any questions about the application or about how to structure a grant proposal, please contact Kelly Taylor, the MCCF Program Coordinator, at 362-1267.
PREPARATION
Read instructions carefully. Be sure to include all requested information in the grant proposal. Grant committee members note your ability/inability to follow directions.
Submit the correct number of copies. The instructions ask for ten (10) collated copies of the proposal including the attachments, so be sure to submit ten (10) copies. We request a specific number of copies so that each committee member can review the grant application.
CONTENT
Applications should be brief and to the point. Avoid using technical or professional jargon that might be unfamiliar to committee members. State/summarize proposed project immediately. When providing a brief background of your project, do so after you have clearly stated the project you are proposing to MCCF. Do not require grant committee members to read paragraphs or pages before you state the purpose of the grant. Demonstrate that you have the support of others for your organization and this project specifically. Identify funding and other resources received from other foundations, corporations, and individuals who will be working with you to make the project successful.
FINANCIAL INFORMATION
Fill out all financial information in the application. A specific format is required of all applicants. If a line item does not apply to your organization, then write N/A.
Include your organization’s current and previous year’s completed financial statements. These may be in whatever form you maintain that information. Attach detailed project estimates or bids for projects. The project budget should be an itemized list of the cost of your project. Identify which items you plan to fund with the MCCF grant. For construction projects $10,000 and more, a minimum of two (2) professional estimates or quotes must be included with the proposal. These documents demonstrate that you have done your homework and have an accurate sense of what the project will cost.
Ask for a specific amount in your request. Clearly identify the amount of funding you are requesting from the foundation.
ATTACHMENTS
Acknowledge missing information. If you do not submit one of the requested attachments, state why you have not included the information. Label all attachments. Attachments should be easy to identify. It is also required to assemble the attachments in the order addressed in the application.
PRESENTATION
Submit a reader-friendly proposal. All proposals must be typed. Committee members must read numerous grant proposals so keep the font size reasonable (10 to 12 point). Other ways to make your proposal reader-friendly include: (1) Do not use all uppercase letters. (2) Use paragraph format. (3) Number the pages at the bottom.
Three-hole punch each copy of the proposal. Separate each copy with a paper/binder clip or colored paper. Do not staple or place the proposal in a folder or cover. Do not send cover letters, letters of endorsement, newspaper clippings, videos or other materials.
